Submission Guidelines

While our quarterly journal focuses on specific themes, we know that what people have to say is sometimes timely and doesn't fit well with one of our themes. For this reason, we welcome standalone submissions throughout the year for our blog that align with our overall mission and values.

Content Guidelines

  • Submissions should reflect socially conservative, Catholic, and/or Christian perspectives.

  • Topics may include but are not limited to: literature, art, faith, family, culture, ethics, social issues, and personal reflections.

  • We accept both original and previously published works, provided you have the right to republish.

  • We welcome creative and non-fiction works, including book reviews, essays, short stories, and poetry.

Submission Requirements

  • Word count: 200-1000 words for prose, 200-1500 for non-fiction, and up to 50 lines for poetry.

  • Format: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF (.pdf) files.

  • Include a brief author bio (50-100 words) and your contact information.

  • One submission per author at a time; please wait for a response before submitting again.

  • For previously published works, include information about the original publication.

How to Submit

  1. Prepare your piece according to the guidelines above.

  2. Email your submission to voicexvirtue [at] gmail.com

  3. Use the subject line: "[Your Name] - Blog Submission"

  4. In the body of your email, please include:

    1. A brief cover letter addressed to the Voice & Virtue editors

    2. A brief (<50 word) third-person biography.

    3. Your name

      1. Should your writing be accepted, you may opt to have the piece(s) published anonymously, or with a pseudonym. Although we believe in freedom of speech and being unashamed in expressing our beliefs to the world, we understand that everyone's circumstances are unique, and we want to make expression as easy as possible for you.

Review Process

  • Our editorial team reviews submissions on a rolling basis.

  • We aim to respond within 2-3 weeks.

  • If accepted, we'll work with you on any necessary edits before publication.

Rights

  • Once a piece of yours has been accepted, we reserve electronic rights as well as the right to archive your work on our website.

  • After publication, all copyrights revert back to the author, and you may seek reprints elsewhere. Please do credit Voice & Virtue as the original publisher.

  • We accept reprints. Please let us know the name of the original publisher in the body of your email so that we can credit them. We'd also recommend checking the original publisher's reprint policies before sending a previously published piece our way.

  • We also welcome simultaneous submissions. Please note in the body of your email if any of your pieces are being considered elsewhere, and update us accordingly on the status of said pieces.

We look forward to reading your work!
